MY SBTE COMMENTS FROM
THE MATHEMATICS (COMBINATION) LESSON:
My SBTE said that she thought the
lesson went well. She liked that I was
getting more confident transitioning the students from the carpet to
the desks
and back to the carpet. The only thing
that she said she would have added was to have the students sit in a
circle on
the carpet rather than in rows. This way
they would have the opportunity to sit facing each other so everyone
could hear
and see each other.Something minor that
she corrected me on was how I wrote the possible combinations of ten on
the
board.I did not have the commutative
property of addition clearly defined by having, for example, 4+6 and
6+4 next
to each other. My SBTE corrected me on
this right away, so I fixed it as soon as I recognized what she was
talking
about.
MY SBTE COMMENTS FROM THE SOCIAL
STUDIES (COMPASS ROSE) LESSON:
My SBTE emailed me her comments
about the lesson
which I have attached with this reflection. She seemed to think it went really well, and she really liked
the whole
thing. Her email stated: "You're very positive and you connect
well with the kids! You present yourself in a confident manner
and know your lesson well. You are very prepared - thank
you! The only suggestion I can offer is to plan where you want
the kids to be for each part and how you will get them there; which
attention getters and/or transition activities do you feel comfortable
with or want to try? (Play a CD, clap a pattern-wait-give directions,
call teams to "hop like a kangeroo" or swim or whatever to the carpet
or to desks, cheer S..T..O..P stop and freeze, ring the bell..... teach
them a new one if you want - whatever feels goo to you! :>) I
think you'll be great!"
MY SBTE COMMENTS FROM THE
SCIENCE LESSON: My
SBTE suggested
I model everything the students needed to do exactly. This way they would be able to see the final
product and know what it is supposed to look like. She believes in modeling, for all lessons, especially
with younger grade; this class being a first grade class, they really
needed this
lesson to be modeled.Something else my
SBTE said was that if it were a more complex lesson, I should have made
a
checklist for the students to complete as they were doing the lesson. This way they would have known exactly what
was
going on, and they could have checked off what they had done as they
did it.Both my SBTE’s suggestions, I
really took
into consideration, and when I do another science lesson, or any
lesson, I will
be very conscious to use modeling and checklists for my students.
